James K. Childerston, Ph.D., ABMP Licensed Psychologist
Dr. Childerston is a clinical psychologist specializing in a broad spectrum of psychological disciplines including individual and couple therapy, as well as medical and pharmacological consulting. He is a nationally known author and a widely sought speaker who has led seminars and retreats across the United States on marital enrichment, managing emotions, communication skills and conflict resolution strategies, and fostering relational closeness. He also has demonstrated expertise in treating sexual dysfunction and addressing sexuality and aging. Dr. Childerston is board certified in medical psychology, psychopharmacology, and sex therapy. He is a founder of The Academy of Medical Psychology and served as Vice President for several years before serving 10 years as President.  He is on the faculty of the Institute for Sexual Wholeness and the Board of Directors of Sexual Wholeness, Inc.  He is the co-author of A Celebration of Sex After 50 and Purity & Passion: Authentic Male Sexuality. Jim is an avid sports enthusiast and enjoys traversing the globe with his wife, Carolyn.

Gary B. Baker, M.A. Psychological Associate
Accompanied by an extensive counseling background and M.A.’s from both Hood College and West Virginia University, Gary brought his contagious energy and distinctive play-based approach to Childerston & Associates in 1995. His expertise lies in counseling children, adolescents, and their families as well as individual adults with resonating traumatic histories. Additionally, he provides educational presentations to the community, offers consultations to area guidance counselors, assists patients and their physicians with medication issues, and specializes in a wide range of psychological testing. A passionate sports fan and our resident March Madness draft adviser, Gary also spent many years coaching local youth baseball.

Melissa M. Linn-Cañas, M.A., LCPC Psychological Associate
After graduating from Regent University, Melissa came to Childerston & Associates in 2006.  She primarily sees adolescents, young women, and families, frequently employing her bilingualism to work cross-culturally with Latino families. Melissa’s counseling is rooted in a warm, relationship-based philosophy, energized by her passion to help others realize their potential, and refined by her vast experience working with individuals and families across the globe. Melissa is also the founder and director of La MANO of HOPE, a missions-driven, non-profit organization, currently facilitating missionary endeavors in five countries. 

Victoria K. Tydings, Psy.D. Clinical Therapist
After receiving her Doctorate of Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University, Victoria worked in several inpatient and outpatient facilities in the D.C. Metro area, conducting psychodiagnostic assessments and psychotherapy. She applies a practiced and welcoming integrative method to assist clients in achieving their treatment goals with concerns such as mood disorders, trauma, behavioral and conduct concerns, AD/HD, autism spectrum disorders, and familial discord. On weekends, you’ll find Victoria traveling, spending time with friends and family, or rooting for her favorite sports teams. Dr. Tydings offers daytime, evening, and Saturday appointments; she is out of the office on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Tammy S. Hedges, LCSW-C Clinical Therapist
Tammy is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Social Work and a Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical.  After running her own daycare, serving as a child protective social worker, working for Villa Maria Catholic Charities and the Boonsboro school system, she joined Childerston & Associates where she contributes a diverse and experienced perspective to her work with children, teens, individuals, and family groups.  In her spare time, Tammy is an always-on-the-go mother of two teenagers with an Associate’s degree in art and a passion for photography.

Melissa A. Clawson, M.A., LCPC Clinical Therapist
With over eighteen years' experience providing individual, group, and crisis counseling for those facing mental health and substance abuse challenges, Melissa was a welcome addition to our team. Her approach to therapy combines cognitive, behavioral, and interpersonal techniques and adeptly employs the latest technology, allowing Melissa to truly meet her clients where, and how, they need it most. Together with her clients, Melissa intentionally develops personal goals that ensure growth and progress in a wide range of areas, including self-development, self-esteem, life transitions, and family dynamics. When she's not in the office, you might catch a joy-filled Melissa laughing until her cheeks hurt or spending time with her family. 

Carolyn S. Childerston, M.A. Practice Administrator 
Carolyn's passion lies in matching clients with best-fit therapists in order to facilitate an effective therapeutic process. Over twenty years of placing intakes and a graduate degree in counseling allow Carolyn to communicate our process with experience, wisdom, and a fine-honed attention to individual needs. Quick to point out alternative solutions without the need for therapy, 
Carolyn is known for her ability to help clients pinpoint exactly what they seek.  After raising five children with Dr. Childerston and many years spent listening to people’s stories, rest assured she doesn't overwhelm easily. Carolyn is also available for speaking and consulting engagements in a variety of specialty fields including church dynamics and curriculum. 

Coleman J. Grubbs Office Manager
As our front office administrator Coleman specializes in handling insurance companies, billing issues, and ensuring the office runs smoothly. He has a degree in psychology, holds eight years management experience with a Fortune 500 company, and has been with Childerston & Associates for six years.  His ability to untangle difficult situations and approach questions with a characteristic calm diligence makes him an essential member of our team. When he isn't helping clients understand their insurance policies or calculating payment schedules, Coleman coaches high school track in Hagerstown.
